On June 12, 2024, an international trade/overseas expansion seminar was held for about two hours with participation from a number of companies in various fields leading the way in overseas markets, including Rainbow Robotics, Woongjin Group, Mega Coffee (Ann House), and One Spirits (Wonsoju).
Attorney Woo Hyuk Sky Ju, a U.S. Attorney (Washington, D.C. and Texas) of LIN's International Legal Affairs Team (International Trade/Overseas Expansion), was a key speaker at the seminar, presenting legal cases and considerations that may arise when companies already established in their respective fields in Korea enter the U.S. in various legal entity forms such as subsidiaries, branches, and liaison offices; corporate dispute issues and resolution, litigations and arbitration; basic regulations on corporate governance and foreign exchange transactions that accompany overseas expansion; and the advantages and disadvantages of the major U.S. states most often considered for expansion. This was followed by a specific and practical training on key labor law issues in the U.S. with our collaborating partner, Barnes & Thomburg, LLP, a large U.S. law firm, to ensure that our clients' global business would benefit from the training.
At this seminar, Ju introduced LIN’s International Legal Affairs Team and explained his know-how in establishing a U.S. corporation for overseas expansion, dispatching expatriates, and drafting various international contracts. In addition, he provided information on labor law issues that companies in the U.S. must know, including legal interview questions and documents, anti-discrimination laws and litigation cases, wage setting, overtime, and guarantee of breaks for workers, etc.
The seminar was invited by several companies specializing in corporate advisory, including Hanmi Bank (a major Korean-American bank), Solomon Insurance Group (an insurance company specializing in corporate America), America Tax and Business Service CPA Firm (an accounting firm based in CA, USA), and Allmerits Asset, LLC (a financial asset manager in the United States), and U.S. Attorney Woo Hyuk Ju engaged in an in-depth discussion with representatives of leading Korean companies through a lively Q&A session after the presentation.
