Kim & Chang has become the first law firm in Korea to surpass 1,000 (Korea-licensed) lawyers. Other large law firms such as Lee & Ko (Gwang-Jang), Bae, Kim & Lee (Tae-Pyung-Yang), Yulchon, and Shin & Kim (Sejong), the other big firms after Kim & Chang, are also actively recruiting talent and rapidly growing in size. Analysts say that the battle for growth in the limited domestic legal services market is growing increasingly fierce.
As the need for scale has become crucial for survival, mid-sized law firms are also joining the 'bulking up' race by merging their practices one after another, and the representative mid-sized law firms 'LIN' and 'LKB Partners' are in the midst of a merger. These two firms signed an MOU in February and are in the continuation of merger process. Upon completion of the merger, a full service law firm with 200 lawyers will be established, with LIN specializing in advisory services and LKB Partners focusing on litigation work.
