In Korea, the Product Liability Act was amended in response to the humidifier sterilizer incident and has been in effect since April 2018, introducing a punitive damages system and adding a presumption of causation clause to ease the burden of proof for consumers while strengthening the liability of manufacturers. Furthermore, as the Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought about a major transformation and the number of knowledge-based products such as data, software, AI, and pharmaceuticals has increased, there has been a movement in the EU to strengthen the liability of manufacturers for highly technical products and expand the scope of targets and damages.
